Life After Graduation: Christopher Barry Lamont, MBA

Join us as we interview Master of Business Administration (MBA) graduate Christopher Lamont about his experience studying for his MBA while managing a successful career at Downer QLD.

What do you currently do? What do you enjoy the most at your position?

I run the construction arm for Downer QLD. The most enjoyable part of my role is working with the people and clients to build social infrastructure.

What was the best piece of career (or life) advice that you received?

‘Unless you grow beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow’.

What prompted you to study an MBA?

I was prompted by an insatiable appetite to learn and grow.

What method of study did you choose and why?

Online – I am very autonomous and studying online gives great flexibility with family and work.

How has the MBA benefited your current role?

It has provided me with more depth and breadth of amazing business concepts to draw from.

What are some of the achievements you are most proud of?

The network and friendships I’ve built along the way. Also being able to apply what I learned in the classroom to help grow my own business.

Treat an MBA as a book – don’t be overwhelmed by the amount of pages or size of the book, just enjoy and treat each chapter as it comes. The final outcome will look after itself.

Were there any subjects or lecturers that have stood out to you the most?

Yes Strategic Management by Dr Daniel Evans and Economics by Dr Alex Kouznetsov. Both of these professors were great at motivating and improving my performance, it made these subjects very enjoyable.

As well as Dr Justin Pierce’s guidance throughout the changes in Laureate. They have been nothing short of brilliant and inspirational.

What advice do you have for any prospective MBA students out there?

Treat an MBA as a book – don’t be overwhelmed by the amount of pages or size of the book, just enjoy and treat each chapter as it comes. The final outcome will look after itself.

When will you graduate?

This is my 12th and final subject. Two weeks to go then I officially have my MBA!
