What makes Torrens University different than the other Universities? We believe the student comes first, always.
As Australia’s youngest Private University, we are the change-makers. We don’t settle for status-quo. Not only do we offer competitive programs, flexible learning options, access to an international network, and valuable internships, we also offer a dedicated Success Coach to our students to ensure they get the most out of their education with us.
Giving You The Edge
Our industry-first Success Coaching program helps our student’s pair learning and development with their own professional goals. Our goal is to give our students the edge they need in an intensely competitive employment.
“Occupations heavily focused on soft skills are growing 2.5X more quickly than other occupations. These occupations also outnumber technical roles and by 2030 are expected to account for two-thirds of all jobs in the Australian economy. However, 25% of employers still find it challenging to fill an entry-level position because candidates lack soft skills.”
Improving Soft Skills
Our success coaches are drawn from their industry and their primary function is to work in collaboration with our students to improve the required skills which cannot be learned from a textbook or lecture. This includes communication, self-management, digital skills, problem-solving, critical thinking and career planning.
According to a recent report, occupations which are heavily focused on soft skills are growing 2.5 times more quickly than other occupations. These occupations also outnumber more technical roles and by 2030 are expected to account for two-thirds of all jobs in the Australian economy. In 2017, however, 25% of employers still find it challenging to fill an entry-level position because candidates lack soft skills. This only reaffirms the need for universities and other education providers to do more to bridge the gap between study and work with a particular emphasis on the practical application of knowledge.
“When creating our programs, we consult and work closely with industry leaders to identify the attributes they are looking for in the graduate employment pool. In response to their feedback, and to ensure graduates of Torrens University stand out in competitive markets, every program includes industry collaborations, work placements and international experiences or exchanges to boost students’ real-world employability and global perspective. In our latest news, we added highly skilled leaders as success coaches to further bolster our focus on soft skills development and to help graduates get the career of their choosing. Each of our success coaches comes from a relevant industry background and is charged with nurturing and developing students’ unique strengths to help them with problem-solving and decision making in genuine workplace scenarios”
– Vice Chancellor Professor Justin Beilby.
Encourage, Inspire, Guide
Our Success coaches work alongside academic staff to encourage, inspire and guide students, building their confidence and motivation, and offering them advice to help make the most out of their time at the university. We encourage all of our students, in any of our programs, to participate in the success coaching program so they can get the most out of their enrolment and future employment.
