Last Thursday, Torrens University Australia celebrated a significant run of ‘firsts’ since operations commenced in January 2014 – spanning collaborations, student outcomes and innovations – at the commemorative launch of its new Adelaide campus on Wakefield Street.
Capping off what has been a short period full of achievements, the University announced a trifecta of new industry partnerships with the Real Madrid Graduate School, Chifley Business School and Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School (BMIHMS) – which will result in a raft of new, industry-aligned courses being offered to students. These collaborations follow the University’s partnership with New Zealand’s award-winning Media Design School to create Media Design School at Torrens University Australia, announced late last year.
Student experiences were also celebrated at the launch, including networking opportunities with global leaders, a full trimester of study abroad in Malaysia, industry work-placements, and the completion of courses by the University’s first cohort of graduands.
Dignitaries in attendance included Mr Douglas Becker, Founder, Chairman and CEO of Laureate International Universities, The Hon. Christopher Pyne MP, Minister for Education and Training and Ms Linda Brown, CEO of Laureate Australia – all of whom jointly signed a commemorative plaque. Mr Martin Haese, Lord Mayor, The City of Adelaide, Mr Michael Mann AM, Chancellor of Torrens University Australia and Professor Justin Beilby, Vice Chancellor of Torrens University Australia, also attended the event.
To conclude formalities guests were given a tour of the new Wakefield Street campus. With a focus on flexibility, the campus’ innovative learning spaces have been designed for collaboration, interaction and creativity. Features include: open work areas; operable walls to quickly create different zones; a digital entry wall to stream live news, events and student work; and unique customisable business ‘pods’.
The commemorative launch of the Wakefield Street campus follows the opening of new Torrens University campuses in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne last year.
