We have a fantastic student finance team who is here for you.

We have a fantastic student finance team who is here for you.

Our team will listen, as well as offer advice and support regarding your fees and student finance needs. Where they can, they will help you. They pride themselves on being accessible and understanding while offering a great service. Please do not hesitate to contact student finance when you have finance related questions or encounter any hardships.

With COVID-19 presenting many challenges the team are working around the clock to ensure you feel supported. They will have and provide clear advice and guidance.

We are not reducing our tuition fees, however, here are some suggestions that may be useful for you during this time:

Job loss and casual work

We are looking at areas where you can find employment and which the Australian Government currently regards as essential services. In these areas, there are still jobs in high demand, such as online sales, supermarkets, takeaway food outlets amongst others (please note that the status of some may change as the Australian Government is revising its restrictions regularly).

Our industry team is working hard to find options for all of our students to continue working. If you visit the Student Hub and login to our Careers Connect section, you will find a full list of current job opportunities available under the Job & WIL/IP section. This list is being updated on a regular basis.

Through Careers Connect and advice from the Australian Government, there are some major Australian companies who have announced hiring plans, including Coles, Woolworths, Telstra, NAB, BHP, and the Australian Government. As we receive opportunities, we will share them on Careers Connect.

Access to superannuation

If you have previously undertaken casual work here in Australia, you would have made superannuation contribution to the Australian Government. The Australian government is now allowing people to access up to $20,000 of their superannuation as a special measure introduced to help experiencing financial hardship due to COVID-19.

International students who are enrolled in a course that is more than 6 months long are generally treated as Australian residents for tax purposes. Please visit the ATO website here for more information on this. International students who have been here longer than 12 months who find themselves in financial hardship will be able to access their Australian superannuation.

If you are a domestic student on Youth Allowance, Austudy and Abstudy you may be entitled to an extra $550 a fortnight, doubling their payments.

The government has included students on Youth Allowance, Austudy and  Abstudy in the COVID-19 stimulus package. These groups will now be entitled to an extra $550 a fortnight, doubling their payments. You can access more information about this here.

Extensions to payment deadlines

We are able to consider further options which may apply to you, depending on your current situation.

Extensions to payment deadlines will only be approved in exceptional circumstances, and applications must be supported by documentation as evidence of the exceptional circumstances.

Your application will need to be authorised by the Director of Student Services and Campus Operations on the recommendation of the General Manager of your faculty (also known as Vertical).

The extension to payment will not exceed 42 calendar days. Your application must be submitted prior to the due date outlined on your invoice for the course you arestudying and are seeking an extension of payment for. Once your application has been reviewed, you will be notified of an outcome. If you have had payment extensions in past trimesters or have previously demonstrated late payment of fees, you may not be entitled to a payment extension.

If you are facing genuine hardship, we will work with you.

It’s important to say we have your back, and we will work with students who face genuine hardship. Please do not hesitate to contact us.
