Meet Nathan Kosmina, Acting CEO of Adelaide United Football Club

“I understand the importance of students wanting to develop industry connections and gain industry experience while they study. I completed by Master’s degree in marketing to complement the business skills I learnt when undertaking my undergraduate degree, and am really lucky to have developed such good industry connections during this period.”

Nathan Kosmina, Acting CEO of Adelaide United Football Club has over 12 years’ experience in the sports industry, having graduated from Uni SA with a Sports Management degree himself.

“I understand the importance of students wanting to develop industry connections and gain industry experience while they study. I completed by Master’s degree in marketing to complement the business skills I learnt when undertaking my undergraduate degree, and am really lucky to have developed such good industry connections during this period.”

Torrens has a partnership with Adelaide United FC, in collaboration with their Sports Management Degrees, which benefits students looking to gain quality hours of experience in the sports industry while they study. Students can complete their internship subject, network with staff, and volunteer at Adelaide United FC, giving them a competitive edge in their careers.

Two of our Master students, Martin and Adriano, who are studying MBA Sports Management, had the opportunity to run National Premier League (NPL) match days at Adelaide United FC, which positively impacted their university and professional experience.

“Working with Adelaide United Youth showed real determination and persistence from the team. The NPL match days draw large crowds of excited and dedicated fans. This opportunity saw us utilize the theory we had learnt in class, on the field. From management of people and teams, to practicing diversity, it was a humbling experience.”

Over the past 10 years Nathan has work exclusively in Football with experience at all levels of the game having worked at Football Federation SA, Sydney University and Football Federation Australia before joining Adelaide United in August 2016.

In his current role with Adelaide United FC, he is responsible for the management of all day to day club operations including football, membership and marketing, commercial, media, finance, community and events.

During this period, one of our undergraduate Bachelor of Business (Sports Management) scholarship students, Ben Garuccio was playing for Adelaide United FC. Ben has recently left to join Scottish powerhouse, Hearts FC. Although leaving the country, Ben will continue studying online with Torrens, a great achievement for such a bright player, and a testament that highlights it’s possible to follow your dreams and continue your education.

Torrens partnership with Adelaide United FC grows from strength to strength, but don’t just take our word for it – come and visit us at Open Day and attend a sports management workshop where you get to ask Nathan (at the Wakefield St Campus in Adelaide), all the questions you want to know about how to land a career in sports – what business skills you need to get there – and how you can get involved today!
