My name is Breanna Woodman and I was working as a Beauty Therapist at a day spa when I started studying Bachelor of Health Science (Aesthetics) at Torrens. Now I’m a Dermal Therapist at Cosmetic Skincare Geelong, and I’m building my skills so I can work in a cosmetic plastic surgery clinic one day. Here’s how Torrens is helping me to get there.
1. I can study where and when I want
With Torrens, you can study face-to-face or online. I chose online as I wanted to be able to work while I was studying so I still had income coming in. That flexibility has really given me the freedom to take the leap and start studying without any risk. But I still get to go to Brisbane for practical classes from time to time – and that means I get an extra little holiday away in the warmth!

2. I’m learning from lecturers with heaps of real-world experience
All of the lecturers I’ve had the chance to work with so far have really plentiful knowledge of what they’re teaching you. They’ve also been super helpful in making my studies stress-free!
3. I’ve met people who have the same passions as me
The main attraction to this field of work for me was the endless career opportunities and being able to help people get their best results. One of the best things about studying at Torrens has been working with other students who have the same passion as me. I’ve connected to a network of awesome people that I know will help me not just to get through my studies, but as I continue to build my career in the years to come.

4. The course has given me the challenge to sink my teeth into
When I enrolled, I was quite nervous and excited about making that next step into higher education. But I was looking for a challenge. I’ve always been very results driven and I knew this course would be the perfect one to help me achieve my goals.
My favourite experiences so far have been learning about different aesthetic modalities. The course itself is great, and I’ve learnt so much already that I can put into practice in my workplace.
With the industry I’m in, the best and simplest advice that I’ve received was “you never stop learning”. Studying this course will give me opportunities not just in my current role but also to further my studies into nursing and open more doors into a cosmetic plastic surgery clinic one day.
