William Blue just wrapped up yet another successful Day in the Life event!
Day in the Life is an event designed for high school students who are interested in a career in hospitality. Students visit Sydney’s leading hotels, restaurants, bars, and visit employment experts to see what a career in hospitality looks like.
Our William Blue Student Ambassador, Naomi, caught up with year 12 student, Tom, to hear why he is attracted to a career the hospitality industry.
What is it about the hospitality industry that appeals to you?
In the hospitality industry, no two days are the same. It’s always a different environment when collaborating with customers and colleagues. My personality also helps me enjoy the industry, as it allows me to have ease when talking to customers and colleagues
How did you hear about William Blue at Torrens University?
I found out about William Blue from a school careers market. Afterwards, I looked online to gain more knowledge about William Blue and Torrens University. When navigating the website was when I discovered the Day in the Life program.
What made you want to come to the Day in the Life program?
I wanted to explore various pathways after high school, so I came to the Day in the Life to experience what campus life is like at William Blue. Coming to William Blue definitely opened up a lot of inspiration for my future endeavours.

Are there any particular areas of hospitality that you are most interested in getting involved in?
I’m really looking forward to getting into Event Management. I think this is the best path for me, as I feel my communication skills will get me a long way. Also, as electives, I would look to do sports management subjects.
Can you describe for me where you are hoping your career in event management will take you?
I’m looking at being an event manager, running big events and managing how it goes. Also looking to be a potential hotel manager if my career takes me that direction.
My favourite thing about the Day in the Life was the nature of the lecturers and instructors. I think they brought a very chilled nature which allowed me to settle down a lot faster. Also the fact that they listened to my questions and answered truthfully along with knowledge of their past experiences.
How are you feeling now after attending the Day in the Life?
I’m feeling a lot more confident about what I will do now after school. It makes me more aware of the pathways I can achieve.
