Health Success Coach helping counselling student

You’ve made the commitment to help others by studying Counselling, but did you know that throughout your studies at Torrens University, your Success Coach will be there to help you?

The support our Success Coaches give every student is a distinctive aspect of university life at Torrens, and our coaches all are qualified and experienced industry professionals.

‘The role of a Success Coach is all about championing our students to achieve what they came here to do for themselves,’ says Health Success Coach Rainbow Yuen. ‘I’ve always been passionate about making a positive impact on individual people and their community. Being a Success Coach means that I get to watch students go on to do some amazing things in their profession and watch how they positively impact others.’

Catherine Thomson’s Success Coach experience as a Counselling student

Among the Health students Rainbow works with are those taking our Counselling courses, such as Catherine Thomson.

‘The Health Success Coaches at the university are really good at helping us manage our time and show us how to balance work and study with our personal life. I’ve found more and more that through the support of the staff and the Success Coaches I’m more confident and in those assessment periods that are busy and there’s a lot going on, I feel a lot more relaxed.’

How Counselling students connect with Success Coaches

Every student is allocated a dedicated Success Coach, whether you are studying on campus or online. And they will stay in touch during your academic journey, right through to your graduation. They run regular workshops and weekly Success Coach sessions, and you can make an appointment to talk with them when you need to. As well, your coach will introduce you to the online employment platform Careers Connect, where you might find a part-time job that fits in with your studies, or roles that will help launch your Counselling career when you graduate.

The workshops run by our Success Coaches are practical and industry based, covering topics such as personal and professional development; career planning; writing great résumés and cover letters: job search strategies; and effective networking and interview techniques.

‘We facilitate, nurture and empower those seeking to improve their university experience and their employment prospects through coaching and connecting with peers, the academics and their prospective industries,’ Rainbow explains. ‘We offer course advice and help students to understand their course structures and plan their studies throughout their course.’

Here are more reasons to study Counselling at Torrens University

Catherine chose to study at Torrens University on the recommendation of some of her friends who are therapists. As well, she did some research online and said our Counselling courses ‘ticked all the boxes’.

‘What I like about my course is the in-depth and diverse content that it offers. It covers areas from community services to social research, and focuses especially on counselling techniques and models.

‘I’d say to anyone who wants to study Counselling at Torrens University Australia that one of the best things I did was connect with my Success Coach. That was the first step in my journey that made studying so much more of a breeze and a really enjoyable experience.’

Rainbow says, ‘Starting a counselling course that is industry recognised opens up not only your skills and knowledge to become a practitioner but can also set you up with the right accreditation and know-how to effectively grow your career the way you want.’
