Considered by many to be the most successful sports club in the world, Real Madrid is known for fostering the best talent, on and off the field.

Thanks to their exceptional business management and sporting achievements, the club has been consistently ranked as one of the top earning sports clubs in the world in recent years, bringing in a whopping 757.3 million euro in revenue just during 2018/19.

In 2006, the club turned their attention toward educating the next generation of exceptional sports managers and established the Real Madrid Graduate School, as part of the Universidad Europea. Like the club itself, the Graduate School has gone from one success to the next, with over 10,000 in-demand graduates having walked through its doors since opening.

In 2020, the MBA of Sports Management at the Real Madrid Graduate School jumped up ten spots in the Sports Business postgraduate course ranking, putting it at number 10 of schools offering this course in the entire world, and at number 3 of 15 schools ranked in Europe. The ranking looks at factors that are important to student outcomes, such as:

● Quality of teaching
● Support in finding a job in the industry
● Alumni networking opportunities
● Value for money
● Employment status at six months after graduation
● Salary expectations

In all these key areas, Real Madrid Graduate School performed consistently in or near the top ten, with a total score of 82.85 / 100, making it one of the best institutions delivering the MBA in Sports Management. You can see a detailed report of the results here

More recently, in May 2021 Forbes Magazine ranked the Real Madrid Graduate School-European University at number two in the country, compared to the leading MBA business schools in Spain. This ranking is based on a survey of 88 Spanish universities and takes into consideration the variety, quality and innovation of the courses offered.
Torrens University Australia is a proud partner of Real Madrid and all they’ve achieved so far.

The partnership means that these world rankings and industry-leading subjects are now in reach. If you want value for money and a world-class MBA in Sports Management then Real Madrid and Torrens University are the right choice. So, the next question is, how do you get in, as an Australian or as an international student?

How to learn world class sports management from Real Madrid through Torrens University

Since 2016, the Real Madrid Graduate School has partnered up with Torrens University Australia (TUA) to co-deliver a hybrid MBA of Sports Management for domestic students, and a MBA of Sports Management (Advanced) specifically to the requirements of international students.

This means that Torrens University Sports Management students now have the opportunity to study online units from Real Madrid, ensuring they are properly prepared for the global nature of professional sports today.

“It made sense to strike a relationship with them because of Australia’s sporting culture,” Torrens University Associate Professor Dr. Justin Pierce said when the program was initially launched.

If you’re interested in studying sports management online or within Australia and you also want to learn the art of sports business from one of the most successful clubs in the world, the Torrens University - Real Madrid Graduate School joint MBA in Sports Management could be a practical pathway for your education.

What the Torrens University - Real Madrid MBA of Sports Management offers students

The MBA of Sports Management and the MBA of Sports Management (Advanced) essentially both offer a two-for-the-price-of-one ‘dual sports management degree’, where students learn a combination of subjects from Torrens University and Real Madrid, combining the expertise from the two institutions into one internationally-recognised course.

The MBA at Torrens University is one of fourteen Australian MBA programs that have been awarded Tier One status in the latest Global MBA Rankings by US-based CEO Magazine. So, by combining subjects from Real Madrid and this high ranked MBA course, students get a unique world-class dual degree.

Students are also given access to guest speakers from the Real Madrid Football Club and the knowledge of top sports industry experts, plus a two-week residency in Madrid, Spain.

What’s the difference between the MBA of Sports Management and the MBA of Sports Management (Advanced)?

The two hybrid courses share the same core subjects, combining content from Real Madrid and from the Torrens University MBA syllabus. The only major difference is that the advanced course is tailored to meet Australian visa requirements for international students, which demand that students complete a minimum of eight subjects per year, or 16 subjects over two years. Domestic students are not subject to the same requirements, and so the course consists of twelve subjects, instead of sixteen. To clarify:

The MBA of Sports Management course comprises 12 subjects:

● 6 subjects are taken from the online Torrens University Master of Business Administration course
● 5 will be taken from the UEM Real Madrid Graduate School course (entirely in English),
● and 1 subject is delivered as a two-week residency at Real Madrid in Spain.

The MBA of Sports Management is an 18-month full-time program, with part-time options available.

The MBA of Sports Management (Advanced) comprises 16 subjects:

● This includes 13 core subjects and 3 elective subjects
● International students will study 10 Torrens University subjects on campus and 5 Real Madrid subjects online
● and 1 subject is delivered as a two-week residency at Real Madrid in Spain.

Both courses will teach you the latest in analytics, sports marketing, management of people and teams and critical leadership skills. Subjects are designed to be innovative, essential and immediately applicable to the world of contemporary, global sports, including:

● Dynamic Leadership
● Sports Marketing
● Entrepreneurship, Sustainability and Social Responsibility in Sport
● Business Decision Analytics
● Management and Operation of a Sports Venue

Through the partnership, Torrens University students are provided an opportunity to gain insights into how Real Madrid are transforming their world-class stadium as well as their strategy to reach 100 million Instagram followers, the first sporting organisation in the world to achieve this.

The management success of Real Madrid and the international renown of players, like Zinédine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo, have turned the club into an exciting household name. In addition to providing an exceptional, real-world education, studying under this globally recognisable brand could potentially add a lot of value to your sports management MBA.
