These extended and virtual reality initiatives are revolutionising the way students learn. The innovative virtual workspaces have been created using 360° and 3D technologies to simulate workplace environments and experiences making learning immersive, engaging, and highly industry relevant. The initiatives are accessed in a VR form using goggles to interact in life-like environments, or via a desktop version with 3D Scenarios.
XR environments create immersive and engaging learning spaces
Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School (BMIHMS) at Torrens University Australia has created an entire simulated hotel environment where Bachelor of Business (International Hotel and Resort Management) hospitality students can service a guest’s bedroom, serve digital guests in a dining room and reception space, and complete activities as they wander around the virtual hotel space.
Billy Blue College of Design at Torrens University Australia’s Branded Fashion design students will immerse themselves in the XR environment through a variety of interactive scenarios and demonstrations covering sewing and garment construction, as well as an introduction to different tools, equipment, and machinery. The XR training experience mimics design studio environments through the guidance of a Virtual Design Room Manager where students will respond to a brief and design and construct a look with an accompanying technical pack.

These projects are redefining the student learning experience for practical, applied skills and critical smart soft skills, such as conflict resolution and developing positive customer relations.
