Things to do in Melbourne

Often called the cultural capital of Australia, you’ll find plenty of things to do while in Melbourne – many of them completely free.

You could spend a whole day exploring the Queen Victoria Market, the largest open-air market in the Southern Hemisphere and home to hundreds of stalls selling all sorts of food and goodies. Or make the most of a sunny day at the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria, 38 hectares of grass, garden beds, lakes and lawns beside the Yarra River.

For cultural exploration, check out the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV). It’s Australia’s oldest art museum and most exhibitions are free to visit. There’s a second outpost at Fed Square, a huge venue for arts, culture and public events where you’ll find plenty to do.
