University student studying at home

Study options

Flexible study that fits your life. We believe that study should be flexible. Study full or part-time, and opt for on-campus, online or a blend of both. Our consistent three-day timetable makes it easier than ever to fit your study around work, family and life.

Choose how to study

We offer most of our courses in different delivery modes, including on-campus, online-only and a blend of both.

Study modes

On-campus study
Our national campus network lets you study in the city that suits you best. Small classes allow for more dedicated time with expert academics in your chosen field.
Online study
Join live classes on our new online learning platform, MyLearn. We use the latest technology to connect you with lecturers and fellow students so you can learn anywhere, anytime.
Blended learning
Get the best of both worlds: study on-campus, with on-demand access to classes and self-directed study resources available online. Tailor your study to suit your lifestyle.

International students in Australia with student visas can complete up to one-third of their degree online, but must also be enrolled in at least one on-campus course each trimester.

3-day timetable

Subjects offered across all faculties will be delivered on 3 fixed days a week, which will be the same throughout the year. This unique timetable applies whether you’re studying on campus, online, or a blend of both.
The three-day timetable helps you plan for the year ahead, so you can balance study, work and personal commitments. It also improves your opportunities for peer connection and access to facilitators.

Study load

As a guide, you should expect to study 10 hours per subject per week. At Torrens University, this usually includes 3 hours of class time and 7 hours of self-directed study.

Full-time study
You’ll study between 20 to 30 hours per week (usually with 2 to 3 classes weekly). Our three-day timetable and blended delivery options mean you can manage full-time study alongside other commitments.
Part-time study
You’ll spend a minimum of 10 hours per week (that’s the minimum subject load per trimester). Studying part-time extends the time it will take to complete your course.
Accelerated study
If you can manage a higher workload, you can take an additional subject per trimester (up to a maximum of 4 subjects at a time) to reduce how long it will take to complete your course. This will still fit into the three-day timetable.
Intensive options
Intensive intakes (T1B and T2B) are optional intakes offered alongside main intakes. The course delivery is condensed, so you will study 12 weeks of content over 6 weeks with 2 classes per subject per week that are mostly online. You can enrol in a maximum of 2 subjects (limited subjects available).
T4 is an optional trimester over 12 weeks outside of the main intake.
Intensive School
Selected subjects via Flexible Online (FOL) include on-campus intensive workshops. The workshops usually require 2 or 3 days on-campus per study period.

Study load may affect domestic students' Centrelink entitlement (Youth Allowance and Austudy).

Start small, study your way

Not sure if a full degree is right for you? You don’t have to decide straight away. You can start with just 1 or 2 subjects and pay as you go. This lets you explore your study options without the pressure of committing to a full degree.

Our nested qualifications mean every subject counts. Complete eight subjects and you’ll have earned a diploma. This can be your finishing point or the first step towards a bachelor’s degree. You can begin part-time and switch to full-time when you’re ready.

It’s a flexible and low-risk way to see how studying fits into your life.
