Scholarship details
The Australian Government New Colombo Plan (NCP) is a signature initiative of the Australian Government, which aims to lift knowledge of the Indo-Pacific in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduates to study, research and undertake internships in the region. These prestigious scholarships will be awarded to successful applicants for study in eligible host countries in the Indo-Pacific. This scholarship covers expenses associated with travel, tuition fees, health and travel insurance. A monthly spending allowance is also included.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible you must:
- Be an Australian citizen (applicants cannot undertake their scholarship in a host location in which they hold dual citizenship or permanent residency);
- Be between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) on 1 January 2025 for non-Indigenous Applicants or between 18 and 35 years of age (inclusive) for Indigenous Applicants, on 1 January 2025;
- Be a current Torrens University Australia (TUA) student in an undergraduate degree with free elective subjects remaining;
- Have completed at least two trimesters at TUA;
- Not be a previous recipient of an NCP Scholarship;
- Not be an employee of the branch of DFAT that administers the NCP;
- Not already commenced or have planned to commence a study abroad or exchange program.

Nominations for the 2025 Round of the New Colombo Plan Scholarship Program are now closed. Please contact study.abroad@torrens.edu.au with an expression of interest if you would like to find out more information for 2026. This program is jointly administered by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trading and the Department of Education.

When is the deadline to apply for a scholarship?You can apply for a Torrens University scholarship any time up to an intake date, to allow sufficient time to review and process the application.

Can I apply for multiple scholarships at the same time?Yes, you can apply for multiple scholarships at the same time. However, if you are successful with more than one, you are only allowed to choose one scholarship for your enrolment.

Who is eligible to apply for a domestic student scholarship?To apply for a domestic scholarship, you need to be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or New Zealand citizen, or hold a humanitarian visa.
