Starting studies midyear

Starting your studies in trimester two or three doesn’t impact your learning at all. In fact, because Torrens University prioritises flexible study, you’ll find it’s common for students to study at different paces (part time or full time) or defer trimesters, as well as starting midyear.

None of our compulsory units have prerequisite units, so you'll never be held up by starting in a different trimester. You can be confident that your studies will be just as efficient whichever time of year you begin.

  • Do all subjects have three main intakes?
    Yes, most courses have intakes throughout the year. However, some courses have limited intakes and start dates. To check when your course starts, see the course page.
  • Is it harder to make friends if I start midyear?
    Definitely not. You’ll meet all sorts of people regardless of what time of year you start, and have access to the same social opportunities as everyone else. Plus, our students have an option of deferral, so your cohort may change at some point anyway.
  • What are the key dates?

  • What are the semester and term dates?

    Torrens University Australia has three main intakes each year, usually during February, June and September. There are also a range of accelerated intake dates available, meaning if you just miss the start date, you don’t have to wait until the next intake.

    You can apply any time throughout the year for the next intake start date – or a future start date if you are planning ahead. Different semester dates apply for Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School as well as some of our other courses.

  • Will I get stuck if I miss a prerequisite subject in trimester one?

    Because flexibility is one of our core values, all new students start their studies with their core subjects. Missing a prerequisite subject in trimester one will not cause you to be stuck as you can take them any trimester, so you'll never be held up by starting in a different trimester.

  • Will my course take longer if I start midyear?
    No, it will take exactly the same length of time, you’ll just take some of the subjects in a different order.
  • Do I need to catch up on the subjects I missed in the first trimester?
    If you missed a compulsory subject by starting later in the year, simply take that unit the next time it’s offered. Our core subjects are available in multiple trimesters, so you won’t be held up.
