University entry for mature age students
Whether you’re a working professional looking to upgrade your practice or returning to study after a break, we welcome individuals with life experience who want to pursue their passions. There are many pathways for applying to university as a mature age student, no matter how long ago high school was.
Work and life experienceIf you completed secondary education more than two years ago, you may be eligible for admission based on relevant work or life experience. We take into account self-tuition, community and leisure activities, volunteering and industry experience.
Professional experienceIf you have professional, administrative or managerial work experience, you may be eligible for admission, even if you don't have any formal qualifications.
Higher education studyYou may be eligible for admission if you have previously undertaken higher education study, including fully or partially completed qualifications, bridging or enabling programs, or just some subjects.
Vocational education and training (VET)If you have fully or partially completed any VET qualifications, including units of competency, formal or informal study, these will be considered.
Year 12 certificateIf you completed an Australian secondary school certificate or overseas Year 12 equivalent within the past two years, you will be considered for entry into our courses.
Special considerationWe understand everyone’s circumstances are different, which is why we assess you on an individual basis. You may be given special consideration if your study, work or life experiences have been impacted by disability, illness or family disruption; if you are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; if you are a domestic student with overseas qualifications; or if you have not studied secondary level English.
Under our Recognition of Prior Learning policy, you may be eligible for a reduction in tuition costs if you have previous study and/or work experience. For full entry requirements, see our General Admission InformationLearn more

DiplomaTorrens University offers a wide variety of diploma courses which provide a pathway to completion of bachelor degrees. Diplomas can give you a feel for university life without committing to a whole degree.
