Michelle Finney
General Manager at Citadines on Bourke (Ascott Australia) Melbourne
Bachelor of Business (International Hotel and Resort Management)
Named BMIHMS Alumni of the Year 2023, Michelle graduated in 2012 and began her career at Park Hyatt Sydney as a Guest Services Agent in Front Office. She was quickly promoted through roles including Assistant Front Office Manager, Assistant Housekeeping Manager and Housekeeping Manager. Michelle then joined Meriton Suites, where she held several Hotel Manager and General Manager positions. Known for her exceptional leadership, she motivates her teams to deliver outstanding guest experiences, consistently exceeding guest expectations. Michelle has driven substantial financial growth by introducing innovative cost-saving strategies without compromising service quality, and her strong communication skills help her build solid relationships with guests, employees and stakeholders.

Scott Bear
General Manager, Novotel Geelong
Bachelor of Business (International Hotel and Resort Management)
Awarded BMIHMS Alumni of the Year 2020, Scott graduated in 2017 and continued his employment at Park Hyatt Sydney, where he joined the Corporate Leadership Program and developed into a Team Leader. He progressed to Assistant Manager and then Assistant Guest Services Manager before stepping in as acting Assistant Front Office Manager during the pandemic. In 2021, Scott moved to Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour as Front Office Manager. He is a passionate advocate for BMIHMS, regularly returning to share insights with students about the future of the industry. In August 2022, he took on his first General Manager role at Mercure Sydney Manly Warringah. In 2025, Scott began his current role, embracing the challenges of managing a property in a different city and overseeing a major refurbishment.

Margarita (Tammie) Malixi
Director of Human Resources at Shangri-La The Marina, Cairns
Master of International Hospitality Management
Tammie was named BMIHMS Ambassador – Australia in 2024. She graduated in 2019 with a master’s and quickly found her niche in hotel human resources. Within three years, she rose from Human Resources Administrator to Human Resources and Learning Manager, and then Assistant Director of Human Resources at Shangri-La Sydney. In January 2025, she commenced her current role as Director of Human Resources at Shangri-La The Marina, Cairns.

Amelia Perez
Development Manager – Australasia at Hilton Hotels Worldwide, Sydney.
Bachelor of Business (International Hotel and Resort Management)
Awarded BMIHMS Rising Star of the Year 2023, Amelia secured a consultant role with AHS Advisory and Horwath HTL after graduating, launching her career in hospitality research, strategy and development. She then moved to Hilton Hotels as Manager, Development – Australasia, establishing herself as a leader among the next generation of hoteliers. Amelia co-founded the Young Hotel Leaders group with two fellow BMIHMS alumni, creating a platform for emerging leaders to connect and build long-term relationships. The group includes professionals across capital markets, investment, consultancy, valuation, operations, design and construction, travel and technology.

Sarthak Bhatia
General Manager, Veriu, Queen Victoria Market, Melbourne
Master of Global Business Management
Named BMIHMS Hotelier of the Year 2024, Sarthak graduated in 2020 and began his career as Night Duty Manager at Novotel Canberra. Within 18 months, he progressed to Guest Experience Manager, Front Office Manager and Operations Manager. He returned to Sydney as Hotel Manager at ibis Sydney Darling Harbour, before joining Veriu Group as a General Manager. He currently manages the Veriu Queen Victoria Market and is recognised as an inspiring mentor and leader, known for creating an excellent workplace where team members learn industry best practices and thrive. He is approachable, patient and respected by both guests and colleagues.

Marcus Chan
Area Director of Sales and Marketing - Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Gold Coast (Salter Brothers), IHG Hotels & Resorts, Sydney
Master of Global Business Management
Marcus has been honoured by BMIHMS as Hotel Industry Rising Star 2019, recipient of the 30 Year Anniversary Masters Award 2022 and BMIHMS Ambassador Award 2023. After graduation, Marcus used his master's degree to fast-track his luxury sales career with IHG Hotels & Resorts. He advanced from Business Development Manager to Director within 12 months, and then to Senior Director before becoming Area Director of Sales and Marketing for Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Gold Coast (Salter Brothers). Marcus has received multiple awards for sales and leadership throughout his career.

  • How can I stay in touch with the School and the Alumni network?
    You can stay connected through various channels: email us, join our closed groups on Facebook and LinkedIn, update your profile on the Alumni website, and tag us or fellow graduates on your LinkedIn posts.
  • How can I get copies of my transcripts/Academic documents?

    The information you need will be provided by our Records & Archives team. Please review the types of Academic Documents you can request (and any costs involved) - https://www.torrens.edu.au/our-impact/alumni/academic-documents. To order your documents, click on the link below and follow the prompts.

    The Records & Archives team will complete your request as soon as possible. Please note that archives are stored in an offsite facility so depending on your graduating year, these may take a few weeks to source. If you need this information for a job, visa application or future study, please provide a date by which you need it.

  • Who do I contact to promote industry placement opportunities?
    You can email any placement opportunities to our Industry Consultant Mia Bronotte who will share them with our students. If you are part of one of our GPP partners' brands, these opportunities may have already been shared by your HR department via our Careers Connect portal.
  • How do I promote career opportunities to the Alumni network?
    You can post career opportunities for our Alumni on the Alumni Facebook LinkedIn groups. You can also email them to Petra Braat. Please make sure you include details on how to apply for these positions.
  • How can I give back to the School?
    We welcome Alumni support for the School and students. There are many ways that you can share your experiences and achievements: guest lectures at our campuses in Leura, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, assisting with placement opportunities, hosting Chapter events on the School’s behalf in your local area, promoting the School through our Marketing channels, informally mentoring BMIHMS students in your workplace and network.   • How can I be nominated for an Alumni Award?
    Nominations for the Alumni Awards open 5-6 months before the event. Nomination forms will be shared in the newsletter and on our social channels. There are a number of different award categories with criteria for each. You can nominate yourself or a fellow BMIHMS graduate.
  • I would like to attend an Alumni Networking Event. How can I get invited?
    Every year we aim to hold a number of alumni networking events around the world. These are known as Chapter Events and we invite graduates via email and our social channels. To make sure we keep you informed of these events, and send you an invitation, please let us know when you move cities or countries.
