Professor Peter Coloe brings extensive experience in research leadership, executive governance, and global engagement.

Torrens University Australia is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Peter Coloe as Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), bringing to the role an exceptional record of research leadership, executive governance, and global engagement.

Professor Coloe is a distinguished research leader and senior university executive, as well as an Emeritus Professor of RMIT University. His career spans key disciplines including microbiology, biotechnology, biosecurity, vaccine development, food safety, and antimicrobial resistance.

He is widely recognised for his ability to translate high-quality research into real-world impact, including the development of patented vaccines and diagnostic technologies, industry partnerships, and expert biosecurity advice to government.

With more than 90 refereed journal publications and approximately $14 million in research funding, Professor Coloe has built an internationally respected research portfolio. His work has contributed significantly to advancements in pathogen detection, Salmonella and Campylobacter research, vaccine vector development, antimicrobial resistance, and food safety.

Alongside his deep scholarly standing, Professor Coloe has held major institutional leadership roles, including Deputy Vice-Chancellor Global Development and Vice-President of RMIT, President of RMIT International University Vietnam, Pro Vice-Chancellor/Deputy Vice-Chancellor of RMIT’s College of Science, Engineering and Health, Chair of Academic Board, and member of University Council.

This unique combination of research excellence, translational impact, governance expertise, and international leadership positions Professor Coloe to provide strong and effective interim leadership at Torrens University.

Vice-Chancellor and CEO Professor Aleks Subic said the appointment reflects the University’s commitment to research that is both academically rigorous and deeply connected to industry.

In his role as Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research), Professor Coloe will focus on strengthening research quality, capability, and impact, while deepening industry engagement and enhancing the University’s research profile.

Professor Coloe said he is looking forward to building on Torrens University’s momentum in research.
