Torrens University Australia is excited to announce it has been named an Adelaide Oval Premier Partner as part of an agreement, which will establish a new education offering in Adelaide.
The three-year deal will see Torrens become the Education Partner for the Adelaide Oval Education Program – an initiative which will offer unique experiences for students at all stages of their education, including primary school through to leadership programs.
The partnership will include a focus on establishing Adelaide as the sports management learning hub within the Asia Pacific region as well as providing exciting opportunities for collaboration with Real Madrid Graduate School – Universidad Europea, the educational arm of the world’s largest football club and a fellow University of Torrens through its global network.
It comes at a time when, according to IBISWorld, sports administrative services is anticipated to have annual jobs growth of 4.9 per cent in 2019–2020, with roles ranging from team management to broadcast rights negotiation, sponsorship deals brokering and managing member services. The Australian Department of Employment also predicts strong sports-related growth with the number of people working in the amusement, fitness and sports centre management category tipped to double to 18,000 between 2012 and 2020.
As part of the agreement, Torrens students will be able to learn at the Education Hub and participate in placements at Adelaide Oval. The partnership provides the opportunity for multi-faculty integration, with hospitality delivery, business and tourism management, sports management and performance, design integration, learning and teaching, and nutrition all being considered.
“Torrens University is the leader in applied, industry immersive tertiary education. Every course is co-designed with industry leaders and all students learn from academics who are practising in the field,” said Torrens Vice-Chancellor, Professor Justin Beilby.
“In addition, our students participate in industry; they learn while doing – and our partnership with Adelaide Oval is another example of our belief in and commitment to industry immersion. Our intention is that the Adelaide Oval partnership will take a ‘whole-of-University’ approach, so that our students can get the best learning experience our city has to offer.”
Torrens design students and staff will help to design a dedicated, purpose-built learning space for the Adelaide Oval Education Program on Level 4 of the stadium’s Western Stand. This will incorporate an interactive classroom, a media centre (with simulated television, radio and press studios) and an online learning platform. This online portal will be co-developed by Torrens’ Design faculty and will create virtual reality experiences – using digital platforms to communicate the unique stories of Adelaide Oval to visiting school students.
“We are enormously excited about this partnership with Torrens University and what it means for South Australia,” Adelaide Oval SMA CEO Andrew Daniels said.
“We anticipate that our education programs will reach 12,500 students in 2018 with the aim to increase this to 50,000 per annum by 2021, making it one of the largest programs of its kind in the state. It will provide access to quality education programs in a unique and globally iconic setting. Beyond that, it is our intention through the partnership to establish Adelaide as the leading sports management learning hub within the Asia Pacific region.”
