Mo-Hair Suit wins a Gold Spike in Spikes Asia Awards 2022 and Guinness World Record

Politix Suit Large

A world-first fabric made from men's moustache hair - the Mo-Hair Suit - has won a Gold Spike Award and now a Guinness World Record.

Fashion brand POLITIX partnered with Torrens University Learning Facilitator and artist Pam Kleemann-Passi to create a world-first fabric made from men's moustache hair. Kleemann-Passi's late husband passed away from prostate cancer, and her work explores the nexus between art, medical science, and loss, expressed through hair-art.

“I think art and fashion are fantastic platforms to have these kinds of conversations because they’re about making statements,” said Pam Kleeman-Passi.

“The bigger the statement, the better the conversation starter.”

The hair was pressed onto black POLITIX cotton, held in place with fine black tulle and stitched in a window-pane pattern, synonymous with the POLITIX brand. The result was a tailored two-piece, designed by POLITIX, which bore an uncanny resemblance to their best-selling product.

Mo-Hair Suit shows how fashion can support men’s mental health

The suit was finished with moustache-hair/resin buttons and a felted Movember-logo moustache-hair pin. Inside, the lining was printed with stories and conversation-starters from people whose lives had been touched by men's mental health and suicide, prostate cancer and testicular cancer—making it truly 'Worn to be Heard.'

About the Spikes Asia Awards

These awards celebrate excellence in creative communications and marketing effectiveness. The collaboration aims to raise awareness of men's mental health, suicide prevention and testicular/prostate cancer.
“I'm super proud! It is a magnificent item of clothing and a real conversation starter about issues around men’s health and well-being,” said Pam.

Guinness World Record Recognition

The suit has now been recognised in the Guinness World Records for the first ever suit made from moustache hair.

In reflecting, Pam said, "I'm thrilled! It is so deserving of this, and I'm proud to have my name attached to it. My husband, Passi Joe, passed away from prostate and colorectal cancer in 2016. He loved a snappy suit, and often grew an impressive moustache."
