What is a Graduate Certificate of Education in Autism?
The Graduate Certificate in Autism and Neurodivergent Studies lets you develop advanced knowledge and skills in supporting autistic and neurodivergent individuals. This degree focuses on support strategies , guided by advanced theoretical knowledge and a person-centered approach. By learning how to prioritise the neurodivergent individual’s perspective, it ensures that challenges are addressed in a way that meets individual needs.
Learning outcomes
- Analyse and address challenges faced by Autistic and neurodivergent individuals using a person-centered approach, focusing on education and social justice.
- Identify and critically analyse biases, prejudices and assumptions associated with Autism and neurodiversity in society and educational practice.
- Design and evaluate inclusive, ethical and effective learning environments for neurodivergent individuals.
- Contextualise specialised knowledge of Autism and neurodivergent theory and communicate an understanding of the historical context for these theories.
- Collaborate with allied health professionals, carers, and educators to implement an authentic person-centered approach that enhances outcomes for neurodivergent individuals in complex educational settings.

Subjects and units
Delivered on campus or online, this course comprises four subjects, each subject requiring 10 hours of study per week, three hours of facilitated study and seven hours of self-directed. Assessments may include reports, practical assignments, research projects and presentations. There are no formal exams.

OR
An equivalent overseas higher education qualification
A combination of formal (below AQF7) or non-formal qualifications and three years of relevant professional or personal experience includes those who are currently working in education-related fields and teachers holding alternative qualifications.
