What is a Graduate Certificate of Education in Autism?

The Graduate Certificate in Autism and Neurodivergent Studies lets you develop advanced knowledge and skills in supporting autistic and neurodivergent individuals. This degree focuses on support strategies , guided by advanced theoretical knowledge and a person-centered approach. By learning how to prioritise the neurodivergent individual’s perspective, it ensures that challenges are addressed in a way that meets individual needs.

Along with autism, you will also explore a range of comorbid conditions such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia and ADHD. Graduate equipped to design support strategies at the education and community level that support neurodiversity, with a specific focus on underrepresented populations. You’ll be able to choose from a broad range of electives so you’ll be prepared for a diverse range of career options in the field of neurodiversity support.

Subjects and units

Delivered on campus or online, this course comprises four subjects, each subject requiring 10 hours of study per week, three hours of facilitated study and seven hours of self-directed. Assessments may include reports, practical assignments, research projects and presentations. There are no formal exams.

Admission criteria

Before you begin your application to study as a domestic student, check that you meet the requirements listed below.

AQF Level 7 (Bachelor degree) or above from an Australia University

OR

An equivalent overseas higher education qualification

A combination of formal (below AQF7) or non-formal qualifications and three years of relevant professional or personal experience includes those who are currently working in education-related fields and teachers holding alternative qualifications.
