What is English for Academic Purposes?

English for Academic Purposes will develop your English language skills and prepare you for university entry. This course is designed to help you adjust to university in Australia and equip you with the English proficiency and academic skills necessary to undertake a higher education degree.
We cover topics such as research skills, paraphrasing and summarising, referencing and academic integrity. There is continued focus on improving your skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking as well as language development work.   • Students who do not meet the English language requirements of their degree or diploma program at Torrens University.
  • Students wanting to extend their written and spoken language to enable them to study effectively in their chosen course and use English independently outside the classroom in a broad range of situations, both formal and informal.

Each program requires 20 hours of classroom study per week. ELICOS students must attend 80% or more of scheduled contact hours within the study period.

International students must not enrol in more than one-third (33%) of online subjects over their course, and must study at least one face-to-face subject each study period. For more information, visit Study in Australia.
