What is an Undergraduate Certificate in Nursing Study Foundations?

The Undergraduate Certificate in Nursing Study Foundations is designed for students who are new to university study or who may not yet meet the direct entry requirements for a Nursing degree. You’ll build foundational knowledge of nursing-related concepts, including human biology, health and illness, and the social factors that influence health outcomes, while developing the academic skills needed to succeed at university and progress to further study. This is a pathway program and does not lead to eligibility for registration as a nurse.
Supported by the Study Start program, you’ll receive dedicated academic guidance to help you transition into higher education with confidence and prepare for a Bachelor of Nursing.

  • Develop and apply foundational knowledge and skills in health sciences to support progression to further study in Nursing.

Subjects and units

Delivered online, the Undergraduate Certificate in Nursing Study Foundations comprises three core subjects and one elective subject. Each subject requires 10 hours of study per week; two hours facilitated and eight hours of independent study. Assessments may include activity-based assignments or online quizzes.

These three core subjects must be completed. Additionally, you're required to select one elective subject from the electives tab.

    To apply for the Bachelor of Nursing, you’ll still need to meet its English language and additional inherent requirements and be at least 18 year of age when commencing clinical placement.

Admission criteria

No minimum entry requirement or ATAR needed.

As a pathway course, admission to this course is available to students who have not met the published requirements for admission into Torrens University undergraduate programs. Students will normally be required to complete a Readiness Assessment Test to determine their level of academic readiness for study.
