We are proud to celebrate one of our outstanding students, Cristina Cabias currently studying a Master of Business Information Systems (MBIS), who has been recognised with the highly respected IASPA Consultica MBA Strategy Award. A testament to exceptional strategic thinking, leadership, and real-world impact.
The International Association for Strategy Professionals (IASP) is the world’s leading nonprofit professional organisation for advancing the field of strategy and supporting strategy professionals. IASP provides formal strategy certifications that enable professionals to demonstrate their in-depth knowledge of organisational strategy and strategy planning.
IASPA Consultica MBA Strategy Award
The IASPA Consultica MBA Strategy Award is presented annually to a student who demonstrates remarkable capability in analysing complex business challenges, crafting innovative solutions, and applying strategic frameworks with depth and creativity. The IASP Australia President, Dr Nick Hadjinicolaou explains:
“The IASP Australia Award is designed to support and inspire the next generation of strategy professionals by offering visibility, recognition, and valuable opportunities for networking and contribution within both the Australian and global strategy communities. The award celebrates not only exceptional academic achievement but also innovative thinking and leadership in strategic management.”
This year’s joint winner stood out for her ability to blend analytical rigour with practical insight - an approach that reflects the very core of the Torrens University MBIS philosophy.
What makes this achievement especially meaningful is the real-world relevance of the work submitted. Rather than relying on theory alone, Cristina grounded her strategic proposal in current industry conditions, organisational behaviour, and tangible business outcomes. This balance between academic excellence and applied strategy is exactly what the IASPA panel looks for - and exactly what our MBIS aims to develop.
This award is not only an individual achievement but also a reflection of the strength and dedication of our entire MBIS community. Our students bring diverse experience to the classroom, challenge each other’s thinking, and push for solutions that have real impact. Our academic team is committed to fostering an environment where strategic thinking thrives - one that bridges theory, practice, and personal growth. As a kudos to the university, Dr Hadjinicolaou stated:
“Past recipients from Torrens University include Tracy Bennett, who was honoured in 2023, and Rebekah Byrd, recognized in 2024. Their achievements highlight the high calibre of emerging talent fostered by participating institutions. A special thanks is extended to Torrens University Australia and all participating institutions for their nominations and ongoing support in advancing the future of strategic management.”
Cristina has set a benchmark for what is possible when ambition, critical thinking, and perseverance come together. Her work exemplifies the qualities of a future leader: curiosity, discipline, and the courage to explore new ideas. Reflecting on the award, Cristina shared:
“Honestly, I was not expecting to be nominated let alone win anything, so I guess it's a matter of doing your best in everything that you do. Personally, this award represents the support I am receiving from many parts of my life, for that I am grateful. Professionally it represents my belief in a growth mindset, always learning, improving and growing the face of challenges.”
We extend our heartfelt congratulations and look forward to seeing how Cristina will continue to shape their organisation- and their industry - with the strategic mindset honed throughout the MBIS.
