The investiture took place before graduates, families, alumni, staff and members of the Board, underscoring the University’s commitment to academic excellence, student success and transformational education.
Torrens University Australia Chancellor, Mr Michael Thawley AO, welcomed Professor Subic to the role, describing the appointment of a Vice-Chancellor as one of the most significant decisions a university board can make.
“Aleks has shown throughout his career an energy and creativity that the board judged would help Torrens become the very best university it could possibly be,” Mr Thawley said.
Mr Thawley also highlighted Professor Subic's longstanding commitment to transforming lives through education and creating opportunities for students from all backgrounds, reflecting the University's purpose and values.
Professor Subic brings extensive experience in higher education leadership, research, innovation and industry engagement. His career includes senior leadership roles at Swinburne University of Technology and RMIT University, and most recently as Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer of Aston University in the United Kingdom.
In his investiture address, Professor Subic described the occasion as more than a formal tradition, representing a commitment to students, graduates, staff, alumni, partners and the broader public value of education.
“I accept this responsibility with humility, with optimism, and with determination,” Professor Subic said.
He outlined a vision for a university that actively responds to the major forces reshaping society, including artificial intelligence, digital disruption, workforce change, health and skills shortages, climate transition and global uncertainty.
“Universities must do more than be passive observers of change. We must actively shape the future with purpose, with courage, and with responsibility,” he said.
Professor Subic reaffirmed Torrens University's role as a university of opportunity, committed to connecting talent with opportunity and delivering meaningful impact through education, research and industry partnership.
“Talent is everywhere. Opportunity is not. Our role is to open the doors so that students, especially those who may not fit the stereotypical ‘university student’ thrive.”
The investiture marks the beginning of a new chapter for Torrens University Australia as it continues to strengthen student success, deepen industry partnerships and expand its contribution to Australia's social and economic prosperity.
