An internationally recognised research and innovation leader, Professor Muhlhausler joins Torrens from CSIRO, where she is currently Principal Research Scientist, Public Health and Wellbeing. She has also held several senior leadership roles at CSIRO, including Acting Deputy Director of Health and Biosecurity, supporting an organisational unit of approximately 450 staff and overseeing a substantial research budget.
Prior to joining CSIRO, Professor Muhlhausler was Head of the Nutrition and Health Research Group and Deputy Director of the FoodPlus Research Centre at the University of Adelaide.
Professor Muhlhausler is a leading researcher in health and nutrition, with 186 peer-reviewed publications, around 5,500 citations, and more than $15 million in research funding secured throughout her career. She is also Principal Investigator and Leader of the Australian Health Biobank, a landmark initiative establishing Australia's first human biobank linked to a national health survey.
Beyond her academic achievements, Professor Muhlhausler brings extensive expertise in research translation, commercialisation and partnership development. Her work has helped secure significant industry and government investment, including collaborative funding to advance food innovation and public health research initiatives.
As Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Professor Muhlhausler will lead Torrens University's Axis Research Health Institute and drive the University's research translation and commercialisation strategy. She will play a key role in strengthening partnerships across industry, government and academia while advancing Torrens' ambition to be a leader in applied, industry-connected and impact-driven research.

Professor Muhlhausler will be based in Adelaide and report to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research.
