Torrens University proud to host SEVENTEENx impact speaker series

Seventeenx Impact Series

SEVENTEENx is a national speaker series that sparks powerful conversations and delivers a clear message to the business community to do better.

SEVENTEENx takes place at events across Australian capital cities and is designed to engage the business community to act on the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Six featured speakers at each event have 17 minutes on stage to explain how they have redefined their company’s purpose beyond financial gain to help keep the planet alive and thriving.

Torrens University Australia is proud to host the Sydney edition of SEVENTEENx at our Surry Hills campus on Tuesday 18 July.

The SEVENTEENx tour is the brainchild of management consultant turned social entrepreneur, Mick Hase, who is using the event as a vessel to create social and environmental change with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals as a centralised theme.

Mr Hase said the SEVENTEENx social movement is more than supporting a cause, it’s about taking action to drive positive change.

“We have a responsibility to redefine what business is here to do and that business can be a vehicle for solving human created problems rather than simply operating to make money,” said Mr Hase.

Aligning with purpose SEVENTEENx to deliver public good

As a B Corporation, Torrens University Australia was founded with a fundamental belief that profit and purpose go hand in hand.

“Mobilising and connecting a purpose driven community is a core driver for Torrens University,” said Todd Wegner, Vice President Strategy, Risk and Communications at Torrens University Australia. “The conversations that will take place at SEVENTEENx are the conversations we want our students to be a part of.”

The university is proud to be the only university in Australia and New Zealand to be a certified B Corporation and part of the community of over 6000+ certified B Corps globally who have one unifying goal: to redefine success in business.

“SEVENTEENx’s purpose aligns with our mission to prove that private enterprise can, and should, deliver impactful public good,” said Mr Wegner.
