Wayne Milera and Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera our First Nations Education Ambassadors

First Nations Ambassadors

Torrens University Australia and the AFL Players’ Association have forged a powerful alliance that focuses on the importance of accessible education to AFL and AFLW players and the wider AFLPA community.

We are proud to welcome our inaugural First Nations Education Ambassadors, Wayne Milera of Adelaide Football Club and Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera – St Kilda Football Club.

This partnership marks our commitment to advancing education and professional development among elite athletes, particularly focusing on empowering Indigenous players and inspiring all Indigenous students.

Named as the inaugural First Nations Education Ambassadors, Wayne and Nasiah are set to champion the importance of tertiary education and inspire future generations of Indigenous Australians to seize opportunities for a brighter future.

Professor Dominique Parrish, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic said this partnership demonstrated Torrens University’s commitment to increasing access to tertiary education and setting players up for long-term career success.

“At Torrens University, our partnerships are measured by their impact in the real world and this one will help these Ambassadors to pave the way for others to gain qualifications that open new doors,” said Dominique.

AFL Players’ Association Acting CEO Regan Bunny said: “It’s imperative we continue to support and celebrate the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players who make our game great. “It’s equally important that we invest in providing development opportunities for our members so they can grow as people and as professionals away from the field.

“Wayne and Nasiah are incredibly deserving of this opportunity, and we’re thrilled this partnership is helping them on their journeys. We’d like to thank Torrens University Australia for their continued support and helping create opportunities for our members.”

For Wayne Milera, pursuing a Graduate Certificate of Business Administration at Torrens University is a step towards a future where he envisions more Indigenous leaders in business and sports. His dedication extends beyond the field as a member of Adelaide’s Indigenous Advisory Board, working towards reconciliation and community empowerment.

Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera shares his enthusiasm, embarking on a Bachelor of Business (Sports Management) to equip himself with skills that will benefit his career, but also his aspirations to lead and mentor within the Indigenous community.

Torrens University and the AFLPA have a key focus to help players thrive both during and after their sporting careers.
