What is an accelerated degree?

An accelerated degree is a fully accredited qualification completed in less time than the standard course duration. A standard 3-year bachelor’s degree can be completed in 2 years by studying extra subjects each trimester. You can also use credit from prior study and work experience to reduce the number of units that you need to complete.

The qualification you graduate with is identical to one typically earned over 3 years. It carries the same AQF recognition and is valued the same by employers.

Credit transfer and Recognition for Prior Learning

Already have a qualification, or relevant work experience? You may be eligible to count it as credit toward your degree and reduce the number of units you need to complete and getting you to graduation sooner.

The degree you earn through an accelerated pathway is identical to one completed over the standard duration. Same AQF level, same academic rigour, same recognition from employers and professional bodies.

How does fast tracking your degree work?

To progress faster, eligible students can increase their subject load from 3 to 4 units per trimester to shave time off the total course duration. Depending on your course, you may also be able to take intensive classes (T1B and T2B) that condense the teaching period. The result is a degree completed sooner without a compromise on what you learn.

If you’ve already completed a diploma, qualification, or relevant professional work experience, you may be able to count it as formal credit toward your degree. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or credit transfer assess what you already know against the learning outcomes of your course and reduce the number of units you need to study. Depending on your prior qualification, this can cut your total study time.

Entry requirements for accelerated degrees

There’s no ATAR requirement to study at Torrens University. We assess your application based on the full picture of your experience and background, not just your school results. Entry pathways include completion of a Year 12 certificate, a diploma or advanced diploma, a portfolio or interview (for Design and Technology courses), or our Readiness Test.

For those returning to study, we also consider work and life experience, professional experience, previously completed higher education, and VET qualifications. Whatever your starting point, there’s a pathway in.

  • How long does an accelerated degree take?
    It depends on the course and how much course credit you’re eligible for. Most standard 3-year bachelor’s degrees can be completed in around 2 years through heavier subject load per trimester and studying during intensive intakes.   • Is an accelerated degree the same as a regular degree?
    Yes, completely. An accelerated degree is the same AQF-recognised qualification as one completed over the standard duration. Whether you finish in 2 or 3 years, the degree you graduate with is identical. The same title, same qualification level, same standing with employers and professional bodies. The only difference is how long it takes to get there.
  • Can I study an accelerated degree online?
    Yes. Many of our courses can be studied fully online, giving you the flexibility to study from anywhere. Online accelerated study follows the same trimester and intake structure and the same credit eligibility rules as on-campus programs apply.
  • Can you fast-track a bachelors degree?
    Yes, you can fast-track a bachelor’s degree by studying across all study periods per year and, where eligible, increasing your subject load per trimester. Combined with credit for prior study or work experience, many students can complete their degree in around 2 years instead of 3.
