AI is transforming the future, but it's human-centered design that ensures its impact is meaningful. At Billy Blue College of Design, our students have demonstrated exceptional creativity, innovation, and the ability to tackle global challenges with their record win at the prestigious AI Design Award 2025, competing against submissions from 32 countries. Billy Blue students were recognised winning four Gold and one Bronze award.
The AI Design Award is the first and only global recognition dedicated to celebrating excellence in AI-driven design. The awards were open to individuals, teams, and organisations working at the intersection of AI and design.
It emphasises the importance of human-centered, ethical and impactful design in the rapidly evolving world of artificial intelligence. Submissions were evaluated based on four criteria: Innovation, Impact, Execution, and Relevance.
Scott Thompson-Whiteside, Executive Dean of Design and Creative Technology said “This achievement is a testament to the creativity and determination of our students. By embracing challenges and thinking beyond conventional frameworks, they have set a new standard for design excellence. Their work exemplifies the transformative power of human-centered design in shaping a better future”.
“The AI Design Award 2025 was not just a competition – it was an opportunity to showcase the brilliance of human-centered design in the age of artificial intelligence. “Students who enter these competitions are well-placed for the competitive design market, where they will often work at consultancies where they have to pitch their work to prospective clients,” said Scott.

Supported by AI experts and learning facilitators, students from cross-disciplinary cohorts collaborated to develop their submissions. This cross-disciplinary collaboration is an everyday practice at Billy Blue and aids in developing workforce readiness for our students. We are so proud of the work our learning facilitators do to ensure our students lead the way in pushing boundaries and thinking differently about the world around us and the value design adds.
Thank you to our student mentors, Learning Facilitators Nina Hillenberg and Dr Philip Whiting, and Janko Kosi, our AI tool expert guest lecturer.
