Torrens University partners with Melbourne arts festival RISING

Melbourne RISING

Torrens University Australia is proud to announce that it is an official partner of this year’s RISING festival in Australia’s creative capital city.

RISING, Victoria's flagship festival of music, food, art and culture, where late-night culture intersects with performance and public art, takes place from 7-18 June. This annual event is an expression of Melbourne’s identity as a haven and destination for artists, musicians, and thinkers who flock to the city in the first weeks of winter to turn Melbourne's city streets into a stage.

This year’s festival will see 88 events electrify Melbourne’s CBD attracting hundreds of thousands of audiences across 12 days of action.

This year, as a proud supporter, Torrens University Australia is activating areas of its Flinders Street Campus, located in the festival’s central zone, for RISING’s festival team and artists each evening of the festival.

Nestled into St Paul’s Cathedral Carpark next door to Torrens University Australia, Night Trade is where you can gather, get fed, plan your next move, or board a party bus and dance the night away. The centre of RISING, this free event will see Australian-first collaborations with Victorian producers, and a nightly program of live music, DJs and pop up performances.

As part of the partnership with RISING, Torrens University Hospitality and Event Management students have been offered paid and voluntary work experience opportunities across the festival's hospitality offerings and Event Operations Centre – a phenomenal opportunity to flex their skills at a world class festival.

Located between RISING’s major music venues and art installations, the Night Trade experience will operate like a “choose your own adventure” novel where you can opt to move in any direction, sink in for the night and see everything, or tack artwork and performance moments on to other RISING plans.

“I think it’s phenomenal that our students are going to engage and seize an opportunity with a world class arts event that’s brash, wildly diverse, and not only pushes the boundaries, but explodes them every year,” said Linda Brown, CEO and President of Torrens University Australia.

“We want to ensure that everything our students experience is grounded in industry, complete with unique experiences that add weight to their prowess,” said Linda. “RISING is special, it oozes energy, and its provocative programming embellishes what it means to be Australian arts festival. I’m thrilled we’re partnering with RISING, it’s fantastic for our students to experience it firsthand.”

The university’s students will have several chances to score free tickets to RISING events, an incredible opportunity to lap up the festival’s exquisite line up.

RISING is an initiative of the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria and Visit Victoria.
