The 2021 International Graduate Outcomes Survey (GOS) presents data on graduate employment outcomes for international students at Australian higher education institutions. Over 38,000 graduates participated in the survey in 2021. The GOS focussed on employment outcomes among graduates within four to six months after completing their studies.

In two key categories, Torrens University’s international graduates demonstrated outstanding employment outcomes compared to cohorts in 39 other higher education institutions.

  • Ranked 2 in Overall Employment for undergraduate International graduates
  • Ranked 4 in Full-Time Employment for undergraduate International graduates

Kath Curry, Torrens University’s General Manager Health & Education, says the results are significant because it shows just how serious Torrens University is about providing industry relevant education to its students.

“Each of our students is allocated a success coach, who in turn works with industry consultants to ensure that our students receive Work Integrated Learning experiences and authentic engagement with industry during their study,” Curry said.

“The other important part of this is working closely with industry on our courses so our students leave with qualifications which are highly valued by industry.”

The results are encouraging because the surveys were conducted during a period of intense disruption for international students as measures were introduced across Australia to contain the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mark Falvo, Senior Vice President International at Torrens University, says the GOS survey results have made Torrens University determined to further improve employment outcomes for international graduates because they are lagging compared to the domestic graduates.

“The survey shows that in Australia there is a gap between the employment and salary rates of domestic and international students. So, we are going to keep working at turning this around,” Falvo said.

“I’m confident our close work with industry will make a difference. For now, to be mentioned in the report as one of the Australian universities with the highest full-time employment rates is great reason to celebrate!”

Kath Curry and Mark Falvo are available for comment.
