What is a Diploma of Travel and Tourism?

The Diploma of Travel and Tourism has been designed to provide a broad understanding of travel and tourism for those graduates wishing to enter the diverse areas found within this sector in Australia, and globally. The course aims to develop graduates with attitudes of intellectual curiosity, independent thinking, a commitment to lifelong learning, and to be ethical, reflective professional practitioners. This qualification reflects the role of individuals who possess a sound theoretical knowledge base in travel and tourism and demonstrate a range of skills to ensure that business functions are effectively conducted in an organisation.
This Higher Education Diploma course has been co-curated between Torrens University Australia and Flight Centre Travel Academy. The curriculum ensures that you are immersed in industry and receive the relevant employability skills and outcomes. The partnership between Flight Centre Travel Academy and Torrens University provides you with industry employment opportunities as well as pathways for further studies.

Subjects and units

Delivered online, this course comprises 6 core subjects and 2 electives, requiring 13.3 hours of study per week, per module; 3.3 hours facilitated and 10 hours of independent study. Independent learning includes essential time spent on pre-reading and viewing materials, assessment task progression, and learning activities.

Co-curated with our partner Flight Centre Travel Academy, the Diploma of Travel and Tourism offers a unique opportunity to gain insight into the diverse tourism industry. Provided first-hand from Australia's largest travel company, the content delivered and systems you'll train on are always current and in-line with the ever-changing industry.

Gain professional experience

Students can gain valuable professional experience through the elective subject: Industry Practice | INF102FC. As part of the subject, students are required to complete 90 hours of industry experience.

Eligible Australian students may choose to defer some, or all, of their tuition fees through FEE-HELP, a loan scheme repaid through the tax system based on income.

Admission criteria

Before you begin your application to study as a domestic student, check that you meet the requirements listed below.

Successful completion of at least 0.5 EFTSL (equivalent full- time student load) at AQF level 5 (diploma), or equivalent, from an Australian University or another registered higher education provider

OR

Successful completion of at least 0.25 EFTSL of an AQF level 6 (Associate Degree) or above, or equivalent, from an Australian University or another accredited higher education provider

A completed vocational education qualification at AQF level 4 (Certificate IV) or above, or equivalent, from a registered training organisation (RTO)

OR

Successful completion of at least 1 EFTSL (equivalent full- time student load, or one full year) of an AQF level 5 (Diploma) or above, or equivalent, at a registered training organisation (RTO).

A minimum of successful completion of Year 10 or equivalent (e.g. Certificate 3)

AND

A minimum of 3 years of full-time relevant, cognate work experience demonstrated by a resume

Program Director or delegate to assess and approve

Minimum age of 17.

AND

Successful completion* of readiness assessment provided by the University.

Admissions staff to approve *'Successful completion' of the readiness assessment is the level of performance on the test determined as sufficient to meet the demands of the course to which the candidate is seeking admission, as approved by the Admissions Committee.

An Australian secondary school certificate (evidenced by a state/territory-issued certificate or via tertiary admission centre platforms).

OR

An equivalent senior secondary qualification from an overseas institution.

OR

A successfully completed International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma.

Students who have not met the Academic Entry requirements have an option to apply and gain admittance to this course under the Special Entry Requirements as per the TUA Admissions Policy. Special consideration admission of applicants into a course whose study, work or life experiences have been impacted by disability, illness, family disruption or other compelling circumstances. It includes Educational Access Schemes.

IELTS 5.5 with no band less than 5.0 or equivalent.
