Torrens University’s undergraduate teaching quality at the highest satisfaction level, and postgraduate rankings above the national average.

Torrens University Australia has achieved its highest satisfaction score for teaching quality at 84%, marking its best score to date in the 2023 Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) Student Experience Survey (SES) for Undergraduate Students.

Torrens University also rose to 6th place among 42 universities surveyed in this category.

The QILT SES is the only comprehensive survey of current higher education students in Australia. It focuses on aspects of the student experience that are measurable, linked with learning and development outcomes, and potentially able to be influenced by higher education institutions.

Torrens University undergraduate results are above national average

  • Torrens achieved a satisfaction score of 79% for quality of educational experience (SES Main Aspect), which is above the national average.
  • Torren’s satisfaction rating for Student Support satisfaction was 74%, 4 percentage points above the national average.
  • Torrens maintained its previous satisfaction rate of 80% for skills development aligning with the national average.

Undergraduate results by study areas

Business & Management students’ satisfaction rises.

The satisfaction score for Business & Management improved by 3 percentage points year-over-year, remaining 7 percentage points above the national average.

For Torrens, the aspects of teaching quality and skill development are ranked in the top 3 for Business & Management across all universities.

Other areas that were above or matching the national average were Architecture and Built Environment, Creative Arts and Social Work. Architecture and Built Environment ranked 4, Creative Arts ranked 5 and Social Work ranked 2 in the top 5 study areas across all universities.

Postgraduate results

Torrens remained one of the top 6 universities for Peer Engagement among postgraduate students and rose to 18th for the quality of educational experience with a 2 percentage point increase to 78%, on par with the national average.

Student support scores were slightly higher than the national average with a ranking improvement to 15th place.

Torrens’ teaching quality score rose 2 percentage points with 83% of postgraduate students satisfied with Teaching Quality, consistent with the national average, with ranking improved to 18th place.

Torrens maintained its position within the top 10 universities for skills development and achieved its highest score ever for learning resources with an improvement of 2 percentage points year-over-year.

Postgraduate results by study areas

  • Teacher Education: The satisfaction score is 10 percentage points above the national average, with a high satisfaction rating of 85%, reflecting a 6 percentage points improvement year-over-year. It ranks in the top 6 study areas across all universities.
  • Health Services & Support: Torrens showed a strong performance with a score of 89%, which improved by 10 percentage points year-over-year and is also 10 percentage points above the national average. It ranks in the 10th position across all universities.
  • Computing & Information Systems: Satisfaction improved by 1 percentage point year-over-year to 77% and is above the national average. Business Management: Satisfaction ratings improved by 3 percentage points year-over-year to 78% but remained slightly below the national average.

Overall, Torrens University Australia is pleased to have maintained our performance and improved our rankings in teaching quality for undergraduate students and across several areas for post-graduate students, in 2023, which was a period of revitalisation and adaption to change, following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Our focus is always on continuous improvement, and we will be looking at ways that we can enhance student engagement via our new learning management platform, MyLearn which has a Microsoft Teams integration to empower academics to collaborate with students, our designation as an Adobe Creative Campus and improved learning spaces on-campus.
