This subject will introduce the academic literacy knowledge and skills necessary for both effective learning and for shaping your future career in a business context. You will be exposed to a range of business texts, scenarios, and environments to develop your capacity to learn, think critically, communicate effectively, and act with integrity both academically and professionally. Consequently, you will gradually build skills in locating and evaluating information, reading and note-taking, as well as integrating evidence to construct well-substantiated arguments and paragraphs.

Understanding Self and Others | BIZ107

The ability to work well with others is a critical skill for the contemporary dynamic and diverse workplace. Underlying this skill is your understanding of yourself and of others. This subject will introduce you to the concept of emotional intelligence (EI) in order to develop your skills of self-awareness and self-management, and the concept of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in order to develop your social and cultural awareness. Through a process of reflective practice, you will demonstrate the evolution of your understanding of these concepts in preparation for your successful participation and engagement in future workplace teamwork and collaboration.

Introduction to Sport Management | SPO101

In this subject you will be introduced to the global Sports Industry and the profession of Sport Management. You will reflect on your own sport experiences and the progression from play to games and sport. The subject will investigate the historical foundations of sport, the unique features of sport and the business principles applicable to sport today. Topics covered include; governance and risk, sports marketing and media, sport tourism and events, the management of sport facilities, and the role sport plays in building communities. Finally, you will integrate these concepts by designing your own sports program.
Marketing in the Digital Era | MKT105

This subject introduces marketing concepts and approaches within a digital environment. You will practise segmenting, targeting, and positioning to a market. You will identify how a diverse range of customers make purchase decisions to satisfy their needs and wants. You will explore the mix of decisions regarding product, price, place and promotion, and analyse a market environment in your area of study.

This subject will introduce you to how business operates within society. You will investigate changing external environmental forces at the micro and macro levels and how businesses are impacted by and respond to these changes. The themes presented in this subject will help develop your business literacy.

Sports Marketing | SPO102

The marketing of sport is now a dynamic and specialised discipline within sport management as sporting organisations across the globe compete for new participants and fans. Sport is both a provider of health and wellbeing benefits and a form of entertainment providing unique experiences for the consumer. Sport has many stakeholders to satisfy and community expectations to meet. Students will discover a strategic marketing process that can be consistently applied to connect sport with its target audience. Students will gain a better understanding of the sport consumer, the importance of market research and the expanded marketing mix. Students will review existing sport marketing campaigns and create a new one for a sport of their choice.
Industry Skills Project | IND101A | 50 hours of industry experience

In this subject, you will apply personal, work-related conceptual and theoretical knowledge in practical workplace situations by engaging in simulation tasks. You will apply and extend the knowledge and skills you have developed in previous coursework subjects and will acquire valuable professional experience, further enhancing your employability skills.

Successful completion of this subject grants 50 hours of credit towards industry practicum requirements.

In this subject you will be introduced to the topic of entrepreneurship and in the process learn to see if you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur. You will learn about entrepreneurship for start-up businesses as well as entrepreneurial behaviour within larger organisations. You will apply the theory and practice of entrepreneurship, and assess the mindset and skills of entrepreneurs. Finally, gain an overview of the business start-up process, and map out your journey to determine your mindset and skillset as potential entrepreneurs.

In this subject, you will be given practical tools to help ascertain whether a new business venture idea is good and if there is a market for it. Venture Ideation gives you the opportunity to apply your knowledge of the entrepreneurial mindset and skillset to start a potential successful venture. In this highly engaging and media-rich subject, you will engage with practical tools and processes that help you analyse market trends and potential business opportunities. You will learn how to identify and develop a business case canvas and how to effectively pitch your ideas.

The Business of Events | EVT102

In this subject you will be introduced to the many categories of events and their roles in society, the economy and the environment. You will design an event experience for a client in response to their business objectives. Along the way you will go behind the scenes to examine how an event is planned and executed. Topics include event concept and design, and venue selection and theming. Finally, you will focus on the factors that make an event successful.
Developing People and Culture | MGT202

This subject extends and applies your understanding of self and others to the development of people and culture within an organisation. You will identify and analyse approaches to promoting organisational cohesion and a positive work environment. You will also propose initiatives to optimise organisational culture, team performance and employee satisfaction in a business context.

Project Management | MGT201A

In this subject you will learn what it takes for a project manager to deliver a project on time, within budget and scope, whilst managing a team and stakeholders. The fundamentals of project management will be covered and you will assess the different global industry methodologies that guide project managers to project success, with a focus on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBoK) version 7 standard. This latest version of PMBoK is supported by a range of project management principles and performance domains, and considers that projects can be waterfall based, agile or a hybrid of both. Through your learning, you will gain a solid understanding of project management, and no matter the industry, why project managers are highly sought after.

This subject will introduce you to the practical aspects of event operations. You will gain insight into the steps required to produce a successful outcome for all stakeholders. You will examine the key operational areas to determine the resources, work tasks and processes required in planning and managing operations. Using your acquired knowledge and skills you will prepare a project plan and other documentation essential to delivering an event.
Event Technologies | EVT211

Gain insight into how digitisation has reshaped the events industry. You will be introduced to the world of virtual and hybrid events alongside onsite events and explore strategies to promote and amplify audience engagement. Learn how to design, plan and deliver digital events. Investigate how to create an event website and use tools such as video conferences, webinars, livestreaming, mobile event apps and specialised online event software to create immersive event experiences. Finally you will design and plan your own digital event.
Economics | ECO201

In this subject you will explore basic microeconomic and macroeconomic principles and their application to individuals, households, firms and the macroeconomy. You will explain key basic concepts such as the economic question and resource allocation and apply the microeconomic concepts of demand and supply, types of market structure and profit maximisation to everyday economic problems and real world case studies. In addition you will analyse the macroeconomic environment through calculating and comparing GDP, inflation, unemployment and analyse how the authorities apply fiscal and monetary policies in an attempt to achieve sound macroeconomic management.

What are Torrens University Australia’s ATAR requirements for domestic students?

Torrens University Australia no longer considers ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) as our primary entry requirement. We have removed ATAR as the key admissions criteria for applicants aiming to study at Torrens University Australia. We strongly believed an alternative to the ATAR system should be found, which more broadly assesses students, especially when soft skills are emerging as important employability attributes. So, students with a recent secondary school education are now considered for admission if they have a Year 12 (Australian secondary school) certificate. Exceptions may apply to some courses.
What if  I don’t meet the entry criteria for a degree?

Am I eligible for FEE-HELP?
If you are a domestic student attending university or an approved higher education provider, you can get a FEE-HELP loan to pay all or part of your tuition fees.

You are eligible for FEE-HELP assistance for a unit of study (i.e. subject) if you:

Undertake study with an approved provider.

Meet the citizenship and residency requirements:

An Australian citizen or a New Zealand Special Category Visa holder who meets the long-term residency criteria and who will undertake, in Australia, at least one unit of study contributing to your course; OR

A permanent humanitarian visa holder who will be a resident in Australia for the duration of your unit; OR

Are a permanent visa holder who is undertaking bridging study for overseas-trained professionals, and will be a resident in Australia for the duration of the study.

Enrolled in an eligible unit of study by the census date for the unit.

Have not exceeded the FEE-HELP limit.

Can I get course credit for previous experience?

Yes, course credit is available for most courses upon application and academic approval (excluding Higher Degree by Research programs). 

If you have already completed a qualification or have relevant work experience, you may be eligible for credit towards your course. What are Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT)? How do I apply?

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that recognises experience, previous study and qualifications, and other forms of informal and non-formal learning, to determine if you meet course requirements.

If you have relevant qualifications or experience, you may be eligible for credit towards your course and a reduction in tuition costs.
