What is a Diploma of Graphic Design?

The Diploma of Graphic Design dives into the world of design with a mix of theory and hands-on action. Guided by industry professionals, you’ll develop your keen eye and learn technical skills to help you solve contemporary problems. Graduate with a professional portfolio, prepared for a career in an exciting, fast-paced industry.

This course pushes you to break the mould and challenge the status quo. You’ll get into the theory and practice of graphic design, crafting original, eye-catching solutions for everything from digital signage and social media to websites, books and billboards. Explore user experience and web design principles, and master the Adobe Creative Suite. Cover design principles, research skills, ideas generation and brand identity, creating your own brand and workshopping it with other students.

With a focus on practical learning, you’ll tackle real-world projects and briefs that prep you for the industry. And whether you’re studying online or on-campus, you’ll have the flexibility to tailor the course to fit your lifestyle.

Subjects and units

Delivered both on campus and online, this course comprises of 11 core subjects and one elective subject, each subject requiring 10 hours of study per week; three hours facilitated and seven self-directed. Assessments may include activity-based assignments or online quizzes. There are no formal exams.

Admission criteria

Before you begin your course application, check that you meet at least one of the requirements listed below.

Australian secondary school certificate, or equivalent

OR

Successful completion of a Vocational qualification (AQF Level 4), or above

OR

Successful completion of at least 0.25 EFTSL at AQF level 6, 0.5 EFTSL at AQF level 5 or above, or equivalent

OR

Work life experience demonstrating the ability to undertake study at the required level which may include approval of prior study or successful completion of a readiness assessment.

If you have already completed a qualification or gained skills through life or work experience, you may be able to credit this against your degree with us. Fees

Course fees can be paid across three study periods. Each instalment to be paid before the beginning of the academic stage census date.
