Billy Blue students win GSM Magazine design competition

GSM Magazine Darts in Disguise

The GSM Darts in Disguise design competition was open to design students across Australia and New Zealand. How many can you spot?

Earlier this year, GSM Magazine launched their ‘Darts in Disguise’ student design competition.

The competition is GSM’s twist on the ever popular ‘Where’s Wally’. The brief: to create your own design with a dart (aka a paper aeroplane) in disguise.

For the 2022 iteration, GSM went trans-Tasman, teaming up with Billy Blue College of Design industry partner, Ball & Doggett. The competition was open to Design course students across Australia and New Zealand, providing them an opportunity to flex their creative flair.

Entries have since been reviewed by a panel of judges from the industry, hailing from companies such as AGDA, and the winners have been announced.

We’re excited to share that two winners are Billy Blue’s very own students, currently studying within our Graphic and Communication Design programs.

A massive shoutout to Emma Orchard, Diploma of Graphic Design, and Naomi Gibson, Bachelor of Communication Design, for their wins.

At Billy Blue, we are committed to teaching our students skills that they will be able to apply in their future careers within the industry, so to see the amazing designs they are producing is fantastic.

“Visual language skills are an integral part of our Graphic Design and Communication Design programs, so it’s wonderful to see our student’s work being recognised by industry and featured in a real-life project. Congratulations to Emma and Naomi,” says Elicia Simon, Program Director for Graphic and Communication Design.

Be sure to grab yourself a copy of the next edition of GSM magazine, where you can catch Emma and Naomi’s designs.
