To help inspire you and your submission, we checked in with 2022 Vogue scholarship recipient and now Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration student, Jasmine Kennewell.

Meet our Vogue scholarship recipient Jasmine Kennewell

How did you find out about the Vogue Australia scholarship and how did you find the application process?

I found the Vogue Scholarship on Torrens University website when I had a look through the scholarships in the design section. The process was easy and quick to complete.

What creative piece did you submit for your scholarship application and why?

I submitted a digital design of a bakery/bookstore, which was inspired by one of my friends who had told me she dreamed of opening up her own bakery and bookstore. I instantly imagined this modern, contemporary, luxury styled bakery. By doing some research, sketches and gathering ideas from her, I was able to create this bakery that was light inside but also had some of her key style elements such as bright coloured cabinets, green splash-backs and hanging book lights for customers. This piece of work inspired me to create the coffee table, which features a rounded bookcase underneath for customers to use. I felt the design showcased a wide range of my skills including the use of digital technology and interior design knowledge.

How did you feel when you found out you won?

It felt amazing knowing I had won as I put in a lot of hard work to complete the creative piece for my submission.

How have you found your study experience at Billy Blue College of Design so far?

Billy Blue College of Design has been very supportive and easy to reach out to whenever I have needed assistance or help with a task. 

What has it been like being the Vogue Australia scholarship winner?

I feel extremely proud of myself for achieving the scholarship, as it assures me I belong in this diploma.

What can you tell us about your experience being mentored by Vogue?

It was an amazing experience being mentored by Vogue. They were all very supportive, had great advice and gave me more insight into what it’s like to work for Vogue and how each of them first started their design careers.

What advice do you have for people thinking about applying for the scholarship and studying at Billy Blue?

Just be yourself, create something that you think shows off your creative skills, and just to be confident that every designer is unique in their own way.

Jasmine said it perfectly – be yourself. Every designer has their own approach, style and way of thinking. That’s what is so exciting about the creative industry.
