The Advanced Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration, built in response to changing industry standards is your ticket to a career as a professional in the field. This course arms you with the skills to gain industry recognition as an Interior Designer creating innovative spaces that stand out. Whether you’re creating from the ground up, revamping residential spaces or taking on new commercial projects, you’ll learn to fuse style, comfort and sustainability.

Throughout this hands-on course, you’ll dive into projects that push boundaries and smash expectations. You’ll develop decorative schemes for all kinds of interiors, learning how to pick the right furnishings and finishes that don’t just fit, but disrupt the norm. Learning outcomes and Work-Integrated Learning

  • Learn essential skills in creating decorative schemes, furnishings, and finishes, integrating efficiency, comfort, and sustainability in your designs.
  • Concept and produce innovative floor plans, sections, elevations, 2D technical drawings and 3D models at a professional level.
  • Get to grips with industry-standard software and design tools AutoCAD and SketchUp Pro, used by designers across the globe.
  • Complete a Capstone Project where you’ll develop your professional identity, analyse a commercial project brief, conduct project research and generate design themes and concepts.
  • Develop awareness of the legislation and frameworks within the industry able to protect your business and the spaces of those you create for.
  • Undertake 120 hours of experience by completing an internship or working on a live brief.

Subjects and units

Delivered both on campus and online, this course comprises of 12 core subjects, each subject requiring 10 hours of study per week; three hours facilitated and seven self-directed. Assessments may include activity-based assignments or online quizzes. There are no formal exams.

Admission criteria

Before you begin your course application, check that you meet the requirements listed below.

Australian secondary school certificate, or equivalent

OR

Successful completion of a Vocational qualification (AQF Level 4), or above

OR

Successful completion of at least 0.25 EFTSL at AQF level 6, 0.5 EFTSL at AQF level 5 or above, or equivalent

OR

Work life experience demonstrating the ability to undertake study at the required level which may include approval of prior study or successful completion of a readiness assessment.

If you have already completed a qualification or gained skills through life or work experience, you may be able to credit this against your degree with us. Fees

Fee payment

Course fees can be paid across three study periods. Each instalment to be paid before the beginning of the academic stage census date.
