This subject will introduce the academic literacy knowledge and skills necessary for both effective learning and for shaping your future career in a business context. You will be exposed to a range of business texts, scenarios, and environments to develop your capacity to learn, think critically, communicate effectively, and act with integrity both academically and professionally. Consequently, you will gradually build skills in locating and evaluating information, reading and note-taking, as well as integrating evidence to construct well-substantiated arguments and paragraphs.

Understanding Self and Others | BIZ107

The ability to work well with others is a critical skill for the contemporary dynamic and diverse workplace. Underlying this skill is your understanding of yourself and of others. This subject will introduce you to the concept of emotional intelligence (EI) in order to develop your skills of self-awareness and self-management, and the concept of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in order to develop your social and cultural awareness. Through a process of reflective practice, you will demonstrate the evolution of your understanding of these concepts in preparation for your successful participation and engagement in future workplace teamwork and collaboration.

In this subject you will be introduced to the topic of entrepreneurship and in the process learn to see if you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur. You will learn about entrepreneurship for start-up businesses as well as entrepreneurial behaviour within larger organisations. You will apply the theory and practice of entrepreneurship, and assess the mindset and skills of entrepreneurs. Finally, gain an overview of the business start-up process, and map out your journey to determine your mindset and skillset as potential entrepreneurs.

This subject will introduce you to how business operates within society. You will investigate changing external environmental forces at the micro and macro levels and how businesses are impacted by and respond to these changes. The themes presented in this subject will help develop your business literacy.

In this subject, you will be given practical tools to help ascertain whether a new business venture idea is good and if there is a market for it. In this highly engaging and media-rich subject, you will engage with practical tools and processes that help you analyse market trends and potential business opportunities. You will learn how to identify and develop a business case canvas and how to effectively pitch your ideas.

Successful completion of this subject grants 50 hours of credit towards industry practicum requirements.

In this subject you will be introduced to the main aspects of consumer behaviour, including the societal, family and cultural influences on behaviour. You will examine vital topics such as consumer learning, needs and wants, motivations, perceptions and experience, and specific consumer behaviours and the internal and external factors involved in consumer decision making. Through completion of this subject, you will be able to critically appraise your own buying behaviour, which in turn will assist you in acquiring, critically examining, and communicating information from a range of different sources.

Integrated Marketing Communications | MKT103A

In this subject you will learn the principles of Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) and practical skills to plan and implement integrated marketing communications campaigns across a range of media platforms from print to broadcast to social media. This creative subject looks at current real-world marketing agency created integrated marketing communications plans and campaigns. You will have the opportunity to create your own creative integrated marketing communications plans and campaigns across multiple media channels to capture a target audience’s attention. You will acquire practical skills in working with the media including campaign planning, media liaison, media planning and buying, campaign development, campaign evaluation and understanding audience research. The promotional aspect of the marketing mix, which is a vital part of marketing and business management, will also be explored.

In this subject you will be introduced to the many categories of events and their roles in society, the economy and the environment. You will design an event experience for a client in response to their business objectives. Along the way you will go behind the scenes to examine how an event is planned and executed. Topics include event concept and design, and venue selection and theming. Finally, you will focus on the factors that make an event successful.
Foundations of Information Systems | MIS100

This subject provides a context for information systems by exploring computer architecture - specifically hardware, software and peripherals. You will be introduced to the key concepts and technologies of information systems that drive change and support organisations to achieve strategic goals. This includes the application of business information systems, data and information management, disruptive technologies and issues such as ethics, privacy and security. You will gain insights into the technologies that are disrupting and transforming society both now and into the future.
Developing People and Culture | MGT202

This subject extends and applies your understanding of self and others to the development of people and culture within an organisation. You will identify and analyse approaches to promoting organisational cohesion and a positive work environment. You will also propose initiatives to optimise organisational culture, team performance and employee satisfaction in a business context.

Economics | ECO201

In this subject you will explore basic microeconomic and macroeconomic principles and their application to individuals, households, firms and the macroeconomy. You will explain key basic concepts such as the economic question and resource allocation and apply the microeconomic concepts of demand and supply, types of market structure and profit maximisation to everyday economic problems and real world case studies. In addition you will analyse the macroeconomic environment through calculating and comparing GDP, inflation, unemployment and analyse how the authorities apply fiscal and monetary policies in an attempt to achieve sound macroeconomic management.

Before you begin your application to study as a domestic student, check that you meet at least one of the requirements listed below.

Australian secondary school certificate, or equivalent;

Successful completion of a Vocational qualification (AQF Level 4), or above;

Successful completion of at least 0.25 EFTSL at AQF level 6, 0.5 EFTSL at AQF level 5 or above, or equivalent;

Work-life experience demonstrating the ability to undertake study at the required level which may include approval of prior study or successful completion of a readiness assessment.

Successful completion of at least 0.25 EFTSL at AQF level 6, 0.5 EFTSL at AQF level 5 or above, or equivalent;

Australian secondary school certificate, or equivalent Senior Secondary qualification, or baccalaureate Diploma;

Academic IELTS 5.5 (no band less than 5.0) or equivalent.

What are Torrens University Australia’s ATAR requirements for domestic students?

Torrens University Australia no longer considers ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) as our primary entry requirement. We have removed ATAR as the key admissions criteria for applicants aiming to study at Torrens University Australia. We strongly believed an alternative to the ATAR system should be found, which more broadly assesses students, especially when soft skills are emerging as important employability attributes. So, students with a recent secondary school education are now considered for admission if they have a Year 12 (Australian secondary school) certificate. Exceptions may apply to some courses.
What if  I don’t meet the entry criteria for a degree?

Am I eligible for FEE-HELP?
If you are a domestic student attending university or an approved higher education provider, you can get a FEE-HELP loan to pay all or part of your tuition fees.

You are eligible for FEE-HELP assistance for a unit of study (i.e. subject) if you:

Undertake study with an approved provider.

Meet the citizenship and residency requirements:

An Australian citizen or a New Zealand Special Category Visa holder who meets the long-term residency criteria and who will undertake, in Australia, at least one unit of study contributing to your course; OR

A permanent humanitarian visa holder who will be a resident in Australia for the duration of your unit; OR

Are a permanent visa holder who is undertaking bridging study for overseas-trained professionals, and will be a resident in Australia for the duration of the study.

Yes, course credit is available for most courses upon application and academic approval (excluding Higher Degree by Research programs). 

If you have already completed a qualification or have relevant work experience, you may be eligible for credit towards your course. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that recognises experience, previous study and qualifications, and other forms of informal and non-formal learning, to determine if you meet course requirements.
