What is a Diploma of Design?

This Diploma of Design is your all-access pass, allowing you to find your niche in the world of professional design. In just one year, you'll build a solid foundation of the design principles that guide our industry, working alongside other creative rebels and supported by industry pros. This course is the perfect way to kickstart a career.

In dynamic studios and hands-on environments, you’ll collaborate, tackle and work on real design briefs. Designed for everyone – whether you’re new to the game or already have some design chops – the Diploma of Design serves up a broad taste of the industry. With a plethora of electives, you’ll be able to deep dive into a chosen area and get a taste of Branded Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing and Enterprise, Communication Design, Interior Design or even Architectural Technology. Not sure what you’d choose? We’ve got you covered with our pick and mix option. Tailored specifically for direct entry, this diploma gives you full credit into a bachelor’s degree.

Subjects and units

Delivered both on campus and online, this course comprises of four core subjects and four elective subjects, each subject requiring 10 hours of study per week; three hours facilitated and seven self-directed. Assessments may include activity-based assignments or online quizzes. There are no formal exams.

Requirements

Complete four core subjects. Electives can be chosen based on a desired specialisation pathway, or a ‘pick and mix’ pathway. Additionally, you’re required to select four electives from the electives tab.

International students must not enrol in more than one-third (33%) of online subjects over their course, and must study at least one face-to-face subject each study period. For more information, visit Study in Australia.

Admission criteria

Before you begin your course application, check that you meet the requirements listed below.

Australian secondary school certificate, or equivalent

OR

Successful completion of a Vocational qualification (AQF Level 4), or above

OR

Successful completion of at least 0.25 EFTSL at AQF level 6, 0.5 EFTSL at AQF level 5 or above, or equivalent

OR

Work life experience demonstrating the ability to undertake study at the required level which may include approval of prior study or successful completion of a readiness assessment.

If you have already completed a qualification or gained skills through life or work experience, you may be able to credit this against your degree with us. Fees

Fee payment

Course fees can be paid across three study periods. Each instalment to be paid before the beginning of the academic stage census date.
